Duncan Responds to State of the Union

January 12, 2016
Press Release

WASHINGTON--Congressman John J. Duncan, Jr. (R-Tenn.) issued the following statement Tuesday in response to President Obama’s final State of the Union Address to Congress:

“Since Obamacare has been a failure for most people and healthcare costs continue to skyrocket for almost every family, I am disappointed that the President did not offer any solutions for this major and fast-growing problem.

“Our national debt is climbing higher and faster than ever before—soon a mind-boggling $19 trillion.  Many experts believe that we may be headed for another recession, and the stock market is clearly having great difficulty.  I am also disappointed that the President did not offer any meaningful actions to help create more jobs and make the economy stronger.

“My biggest concern is that the President will continue to use executive orders to enact his very far left agenda during his final months in office.  Presidential executive orders have traditionally been used almost entirely for non-controversial, administrative-type actions. They were not meant to be a way for a President to bypass the Congress and to act as a King.”
